Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Speaking of Florida, that is where my dying Sabal palmetto and happy Bismarckia came from. There is this old man who goes down each March and buys palms, then arranges a truck to bring them up to sell at a roadside palm stand in Tulsa.
We have friends who gave up on cold winters a year ago and moved to Florida. They were visiting last month, when ironically it was warmer here than down there. I pointed out my dying palmetto to Paul. He had to rub it in that Sabal palmetto are free. That is what he said--free. According to him, when there is a road project or development, surveyors will mark palmettos that will have to be cut down. Anyone (according to Paul) is free to try to dig them up and transplant them before the work crews come. If true, amazing! Imagine free trunked Sabal. Yes, he definitely got my interest. Now, how many days drive in my old pick-up truck would that be...?

Thanks for sharing that Vid Barb. I always wonder how they get the palms to grow so big in such relatively small pots and larger wooden containers. Those palms are huge in comparison to the root structure. It must have to do with perfect ph water and fertilizer.

Always wondered about that too.how they get the palms to grow so big in such relatively small pots
Looks to be very organized and well run...every row of potted trees connected to horizontal wires so they don't fall over in winds.
I've seen so many nursery pictures where potted trees are all laying on the ground after wind.
Apart from the initial labour and support wire cost, would seem to save a lot of repeat labour.
Reminds me of the saying "first loss is your best loss".
I never knew how flat Florida was (at least that area)...must be swampy all year round.
and gator poopperfect ph water and fertilizer
