sticky, shiny residue on trachys

Post by nucci60 »

:? I have some small trachy(bought as takil) seedlings ranging from 4 to 8 leaves. I am noticing a clear sticky substance on some leaves. can't find any spiders or insects. they are basically indoors in an enclosed sunroom. It does not appear to be affecting the plants, but what is it?

I have never heard of a sticky substance on a trachy. I have never heard of anything that hurts one of these extremely tough palms other than extreme heat or cold.

Scale insect

Post by Barrie »

Scale insects are difficult to spot many times and do emit a sticky substance. Indoor cultication is more likely to promote this kind of infestation. So, if I where looking for anything, I'd start with scale insect.

Cheers, Barrie.
