Autumn update, lots of pics

Post by Yuri »

Hi there everyone, I haven't posted here in quite a time. We had a bit rainy summer (it will be qualified as drought in SE US  ), but August arrived with some nice temps in its pockets, but "I ain't got no agua", so no rain for almost a month coupled with 104F, and some things stunted in their growth.
We're now heading into autumn and another killer winter to finish everything off...OK, just kidding
I can't say I devote much time to make everything classy and stylish - I ain't no landscaper, so it's a random plant collection rather than a pure garden. It's a house in the countryside, so it stayed in a rural condition.

Trachy, survived -11F unprotected with spearpull and total defoliation. Recovered nicely

Yucca gloriosa variegata, no flowers this year (Jim, you're lucky! :) )

These guys don't get any supplemental water at summer, along with oleander, which recovered after freezing down to the ground

Blue passionflower (passiflora caerulea) - planted as three sticks this spring

And some pics to cheer you up after my boring story

Self-sown watermelon - the signature product of our region, these guys grow wild here, this is a small one

That's pretty much it, thanks for looking

Yuri,
posting photos on this forum is different from others, and harder to figure out. It took a lot of patient instruction (thanks, Barb!) for me to figure it out. Now I actually prefer the system here vs. on other forums.
Until Barb explained it to me, what I did was upload my photos to a photo sharing system (I use Picasaweb; Barb uses Flickr; some use photobucket) and copy-and-pasted a link to that. Heidi uses that system some, too; Scotty uses YouTube in a similar way for his garden videos (check them out!).

On to your plants: -11 oF for a Trachy is fantastic! I am happy for survival to -11 oC.
Passiflora: mine did not come back this Spring. Bummer. I am trying P. coccinea this year. I planned to dig it up. However, it has not flowered. It grows like crazy but no blooms. Not sure if it is worth the trouble to dig and save.
We have a beautiful native Passiflora around here (P. incarnata) which I would grow if I was not so stupid.
