Hey Jim,
Even you must be surprised at how much everything's grown this summer.

Peculiar that the y.gloriosa blossoms emerge end of August, fully a month+ after other yuccas.

When are you getting to planting that trio of potted bananas?
Leaves are humongous!

I can look at that "11 foot to the top of the gutter" pic time and time again, always seeing something to impress.

The sequoia's trunk diameter has doubled!
Probably a guarantee it'll breeze through winter.

Yes, great Sequoia growth. That will have to add to hardiness.
Fantastic banana growth. I'm jealous. Mine are doing fine, but nothing like what you (or everybody around me with Musa ) is doing. My one bit of local pride is that the Siam Red at the Tulsa Zoo is a bit taller than yours, but it got severely tattered in the storms this week. I was going to take a photo of it but it looked so ratty I didn't bother.
And of course your Colocasia and Alocasia are fantastic. Well done.

Barb-I would say I am surprised by the growth this year but I think we are
approaching/passed(?) 50" of rain since May1,add to that temps that have averaged +10f
higher than last year(July)roughly 69f-88f and you have a good recipe for explosive growth!

The Yucca's late flowering is probably related to it hitting it's maturity late in summer.

I need to apply one more dose of "fertilizer"(although it's really for winter maintenance)
Potassium/Magnesium(Epsom salts)but things need to dry out first!
After this I don't think my palms need any more water until spring!

Side note-

Meteorological fall starts Sept 1 and the weather is definitely shifting with the passage of our first 'true'
cold fronts of the season,the first brought us comfortable humidity and temps for a few days before it shifted back
to warm/hot and sticky and the latest has brought our first fall temps-a welcome break after so much heat/humidity!

To tell true I am verry happy to see your success, they really beautiful and pefect.
Hope warm weather will stay more longer at your exotic yard.
We had a first night frost, but plants beside the house didn't suffer from it.
This summer was good for exots.

Yes it was a good one,more than made up for winter,except for the dead and butchered



Most of the Nanars will go in the basement for the winter.



How is your T,fern doing Antti-any pictures of it?

Are you growing Ginkgo there? It is an old and cold hardy plant, regarded as a living fossil with attractive leaves.
May you could add to your collection ?

Wow, I guess you sure get the attention of people who are passing by your house. I love the different varieties of bananas you have, did you grow them from a seed or bought as a plants? Last year I managed to grow from a seed only green ensete and musa sikkimensis which are quite large now.

I would love to grow Ginkgo,there are plenty nearby and I have no room,otherwise
I would be trying Magnolias and Dawn Redwood(I believe also from China )to name a couple.

Corrosion

None were grown from seed but almost everyone of them was very small
when I got it except one,which isn't even the biggest.

I am trying Snow Banana(Ensete Glaucum) and what I hope are the real Itinerans from seed right now.
