Seedlings that require deep pots

Post by Cali-wanna-b »

Hello

I have started to germinate some cold hardy palms and was wondering what species require a deep pot for good root growth. I know sabals require deep pots, but I am not sure on the others. I am currently waiting on Trachycarpus, Bismarckia nobilis, Brahea armata, Phoenix canariensis, Phoenix dactylifera, Rhapidophyllum hystrix, Syagrus romanzoffiana and Washingtonia robusta seeds to pop. Thanks in advance for your time.

Bismarkias & Phoenix's

Post by Knnn »

You will definitely want 12"+ containers for the Bismarkias, The Phoenix's I've grown seem to benefit from 7-8" of initial space.

My experience with the rest is rather limited but I'm sure others here can be of help.

Best of Luck!

Deep pots

Post by macario »

Hello I just wanted to say I have always have very good growth experiences buy starting my seedlings or putting my seedlings in a 5 gallon deep for there first pot. It may sound strange but I have seen the results. I am no botanist but my seedlings have developed large strong root systems which in turn help the palm grow fast.
