More new palms..

After a devastating loss of one of my 12 ft Sabal Palmettos, I thought I'd help with my palm checks and balances by adding six more Trachy's..... Here's what they look like just before they're given their new home...

Home Depot had their small trachy's marked down from $29.95 to $19.95. However; four of mine were $89 and two were $59 and not on sale. I got lucky though because just before I checked out of the garden center, a new cashier stepped in and asked what kind of palms those were, and then when I told her Windmills, she charged me the $19.97 sale price for the smallers that were on sale. Mine were were priced $89 for the four bigger ones, and $59 for the two smaller ones. I got a heck of a deal!!!

I have to go by my local HD. I haven't been in months, but have gotten my best palm deals there over the years.
As for that cabbage palm we'll all miss, where did you get that? Was it already trunked when you got it? --Erik

Are you speaking of the cabbage palm that died or the Washy in the picture?

LOL that sounds like me, I loose a plant, then I manage to come home with 4 or 5 more to fill the void ( emotionaly and garden wise LOL).

Is that sand on the ground??? Is that what you use fer multch?

Those are some nice lookin Canna.

Sry to hear about the palmetto. Their a bit marginal there are they not? I guess it depends on where you are...... the lower east half of the state is 8b, while most of the upper and west is 7 if i remember right...... the Palmetto is rated 8B????

IF the cashier did that sort of deal fer me, id run back, and grab another dozen or so...... dont you love it when that happens

I convinced the HD here to sell me a large Pygmy date fer 10 bucks, cause id told em it wa so rootbound id have to cut em in half ( fortunalty i didnt ) The HD here doesnt sell trachys, or any out door tropicals at all, not even canna. They had some bamboo last year, and were supposed to get some this year. They never came in....

Cant wait to see what it looks like when all your palms are planted

I was asking about the trunked Sabal palmetto, whether it already had the trunk when you started with it.
I got the largest S. palmetto without a trunk I could find, but if I could keep a trunked one alive, that would be cool. --Erik

Yes. The Sabal was already 12 feet this year when I bought it. Two of the three are doing well. The installer which works for my cousin's landscape supply company said about one in four that he plants dies. I guess it's an odds game until they become established.

Yes. Top soil. The ground underneath is 100% red clay.

Another thread I'm having trouble keeping track of. I must have forgotten that these were new cabbage palms.
Is it easy to find trunked Sabal palmetto where you live? I've never seen them here, but assume I could get them in Texas. --Erik

Your yard is really turning into a palm paradise. You've done a ton of work over the last two years and it looks awesome.

Have any of your neighbors got the tropical bug yet?

If they dont they will. My neighbor, " hates flowers and plants". SHes right from china, so shes a food gadener. This year shes in awe of the fact I have bamboo and banana. And shes always saying " nice flowers" ( she speaks very littl english)........ i think I converted another muhahahahahah
