germinating windmill palm question
I have about 40 seeds that have sprouted so far and most of them have the seed above the dirt level from the root pushing it up,(Growing as if a sunflower seed would)is this normal . Also,
does the leave emerge from the same whole the root has????I always grow date palm seeds and these are growing a bit differently .Maybe do they need to be planted deeper????thanks for your response!!!

willy1der,
Steve of this forum (KNNN) posted an excellent explanation with pics of adjacent and remote germination of palms.

Excellent graphics aren't they? Steve did a great job on this.

Re your original question about the seed getting "pushed up", that happened with some of my cycas debaoensis seeds.
Not a problem, don't disturb the seed in case you snap the young root.
We jokingly said to throw a phone book on top of it...that was just kidding around.
Use a hand mister to water, so that soil doesn't move around under the seed.
Good luck!
We love to see pictures!

Vermiculite absorbs water, and can stay really wet.
Perlite may be better.
Just watch that you don't overwater the vermiculite.
