Under the subject "Broken fan on a Robusta" Wes indicated that the loss of a fan on a trachy could result in a thinner trunk.
I would like any suggestions that anyone might have to maintain T. fortunei compact for easier indoor winter storage in its first years and easier covering and protecting it as it matures.
I would like to keep several trachys fairly short (10' or less) with smaller diameter tops(6' or less) if possible. I know that growing them in Zone 3a will reduce their growth rate. I am also looking for a way to permanently stunt their growth.

I have seen a t. fortunei that was 30 years old that had been bonsiad and was no taller than 18". I believe they accomplish this by cutting the roots but if you check with your local bonsai society they might be able to give you more information on how to control the growth of a palm or for that matter any plant.
