Steve,
that is exciting! It'll be wonderful to see them sprout and fronds emerge.
So beautiful.
The fish think their food is stale
Bet it won't take long for them to pop in hot weather. Keep us posted.

They will float for a long time, it's been claimed that viable coconuts have washed up on Norway's beaches

(Too cold in the GH for germination now, loaded four of them into the propagator to speed things up)

Still moving along. This is a tough one, temps at night have been in the 50's, and barely into the 60's during the day for the last week or two.

Yea a heat lamp on them does sound like a good idea. Or heat tape?
The fish pushing them around was hilarious.
I've never been able to keep one alive.
Congrats on the germination.

Now if I could just get a few more to germinate. Being too cold outside now, moved the rest into the propagator.
Have them bagged up & will soak for a few hours every 3-4 days.
My wife wanted to take a shower, I got yelled at for this!

What's her problem?
Tell her to jump in and make sure the waters hot!
That will get them going for sure!

Little by little.... I haven't picked up a spotlight yet, but did move it a bit more into the walkway, the airflow from the heater will keep it warmer at night.

How many?
Hey Steve
Forgot to ask you the other day,if all your coconuts have germinated?
Thinking I might get some more, for when these get a little taller,I'm going to have to get rid of them, and would like to grow some more!
Where did you get yours from?

Hi Don, This is the only one so far, it cooled down early this year which stalled them out.
Put the rest in the propagator mid October, maybe another month or two of heat will produce a few more.
I'll save you a couple!
FNGLA seed auctions usually has some available. They have an auction every two weeks, register at their site and you'll get notices when they start.

Good work!
About three months from soak to sprout...you're a patient man, Steve!
I would've drop-kicked 'em over the fence by then.
