Ravenala madagascariensis ~ Travellers Palm

Post by Knnn »

A forum member sent me these seeds a month or two back, (the fruit is a bright blue color)

Image

Soaked them for a couple days, and potted them up into the green house.

Have plenty coming up now 8)

Anyone else here growing these? Looking for some cultural advice.

Steve

Cool after only a couple of weeks!

Maybe I won't tell you what I did with ALL my palm seeds after looking at them for 8 freaking months!

Traveller's palms are lovely...the two-dimensional appearance suits them for being against a rock / stucco wall,
almost like an espalier.

All that growth in only 3 or 4 months?
Incredible rate of growth.

From the camera angle, it almost looks like it's clumping.

Nice product from strange looking seeds!

I'm always amazed at what people are willing to try and germinate. I'm no where near that adventurous.

Cheers, Barrie.

Hey Steve! Yours look great.

The 2 you sent me had problems with mites, but I think the mites are just about gone, and hopefully now I can put them in the greenhouse (I had to quarantine them as not to spread the mites).

Steve,
It's a fast grower and looks very healthy.

What type of palm is that between the Traveller and the PDP?
Could it be another Joey?

The two dimensional stem is very attractive.
Do leaves split naturally (or was your cat in the GH?)

No wonder Queen palms are so widely planted.
Stunning even as a youngster.

Barb, The leaves are not supposed to be splitting, that's from me trying to squeeze past it in the GH everyday

Sky hooks...

Mature travellers palms invariably have split leaves, likely from wind.
There'd be nothing left of the plant here during summer.
