C.revoluta not flushing = time to repot

Two plants, one old with two pups; the second cycad not flushing either.

Worked about 2 pounds of coffee grounds into new potting soil because cycad scale is reportedly
down through roots too.
This oughta do it.

This was the one whose petioles were so loose earlier this year from being too dry.
Jody recommended tying the petioles up and watering like crazy. Worked like a charm.
Still time to repot.


Maybe now they'll flush.

Hey Barb,

Did you think you had scale In Canada, I amazed, it could happen though. Did you seperate the pup in the first photograph? I have a Sago that hasn't flushed this year either. Were they root bound? Sorry for so many questions I'm just curious.

Dean, just hedging my bets re the scale.
Besides I had a ton of coffee grounds (*burp*)
The older (but smaller) Sago was rootbound so it'll likely do better now.

I don't dare separate its two flushed pups...despite the good literature and pics from Tom Broome, I have no experience at it so I'll just leave it on the parent plant.

I may attempt to remove/pot up a pup once I get more pups developing, but won't risk it now.
Take lots of pics IF you decide to do it.

This sago is getting old and ornery
Last year the leaves fell over from dryness, this year it suddenly looked like this:
But the soil is moist!



Sooooooo....it got a major haircut.
Tomorrow I'm going to fertilize the hell out of it.
Hoping for a gigantic flush that I've heard about from this process.

With cutting the old leaves off and a good fertalizing, I would look for it to flush around late June to early July.

My two sagos seem to take turns being sick.

One looks fabulous, the other has looked like this for a couple of weeks:


Gave it some special palm fertilizer, maybe that'll fix the deficiency.

Has it been getting enough water? Might also want to check that it is not catching exhaust from a heater duct.

Timely link, Steve.
Seems to be it!

Yet it's in the same soil as the other Sago which is doing great.

Will see if the Palm special fertilizer fixes it (have nothing for cycads at the moment).

Barb\My Sago did not flush for 2 years.I repotted and blasted with lawn fertilizer 30-5-8 or so.
It has flushed the last 2 years now but takes some bullying.
If it is in a relatively warm place and you want to repot,I would do it now,that way it is ready to go next year

The repotting title was from last year's trouble with these two Sagos.

We'll see if the palm fert gives it the required manganese boost.

Then I'll blast it with lawn fertilizer too next spring.

These old(er) sagos sure seem to get temperamental.
