Left one in the ground,potted one gave some away.
Going to try again to overwinter one of these,with as minimal protection as possible to get it to survive,hoping the larger ones are more cold hardy than the 2 or 3fters.
This one potted up is over 6ft.

man, that's a nice robusta, Don!
We're all wondering the same thing...how on earth do you get so much growth so fast ?????

I plant these in the ground in April,my soil is so organic,when I dig these back up,I can't even get a rootball with it.
It Drains fast,and I fertilizer every other week with 20-20-20 peters,I seen one of the local nurseries using it,so it works for me too!
Really,even tho I plant these in the ground in April,the soil isn't really warm enough for the plants to take up food and grow,but come May/June,I feed the heck out of everything.with really 4 months actual growing time,to get that much growth you got to feed and water a lot more than you think,believe me they can handle it too!
With over 50 inches of rain this year so far.might be more than Oregon and Seattle Washington even had!!!
Things really shot up this year,but we didn't get very warm,I think one day broke 100*.mainly around mid 80's.few low 90's.

You have had lots of rain this year

I think we're at 12 inches rain so far this year.
I fill up several garbage buckets with water. After it sits for a day or two, I water the palms with the warm stuff.

I bought some fertilome Brand fertilizer,says trees,palm and shrub fertilizer,that had manganese,I used it in August,and now the palms are all putting on new growth,so we shall see how things are doing at Xmas time!

Is the Fertilome also a 20-20-20 (like the Peters brand)?
I'll look for it.

Do you also fertilize your palms during winter indoors?
Or let them rest?

No it's 19-8-10,and is a powder granular you mix in the top of the soil around and out to the drip line,I use it about 2 to 3 times a year.
Where peters is a water soluble,that I use every other week.
I might fertilize once a month,if the plants keep growing in the greenhouse,and it stays above freezing outside,but when it gets below freezing outside I hold back the watering somewhat and keep the plants a little on the drier side,to help prevent root rot.

Don,

I like the idea of a granular mixed into soil out to the drip line in combination with liquid fert.

My 3 Triangles and 1 Spindle are now indoors and each pushing another spear.
They're getting some fertilizer TODAY!

If the right growing conditions,like good sunlight,a fan on just as much as the light is on your plant,just enough air flow to slightly move thru the leaves,I think plants can take more food,especially the palms that are heavy feeders.

In winter, I always forget about the moving air thingy.
In summer they're exposed to a lot of wind outdoors.

Being you are surrounded by the black sea, you should have a nice micro climate. They may do well for you there. What type of palms grow in your location ?
