Musas produce "pups", usually 2 or 3 per plant. Basically the pup is a sucker that is growing out of the main corm. They can be left where they are or you can split off the pup complete with part of the corm and some roots once it gets 2 feet tall or taller.
I'm not sure about M. basjoo, but pups usually mean that this is the last year for the main plant which will die over the winter.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

I hope its not the last year for the main plant, the main plant is only 1.5 feet in total height. It was a seedling 6 months ago!!!

Musa basjoo spreads everywhere. It will be a giant clump after a few years. Once you get a few days in the 90's for highs and 70's and for lows, the plant can produce a new leaf every 5-7 days with heavy fertilizer.

Hmmm,
The plant it's self is doing great. I plant everything in miracle grow soil and water 1-2 times a day. Whats odd is, if I keep the plants inside they grow like crazy, I mean I could go to bed and have a folded leaf and wake up to a open leaf with a new one poking out. Outside on the deck they don't grow so fast.
I don't mind if it grows babys.
I have more than I can handle now, winter should be fun.

Pups do not mean the main stem is going to die.
Musa just spread by pups. I have had one produce 7 pups in one year.
Fertilize a lot as your growing season is short.
