Musa Rajapuri
I got my first rajapuri pups today and potted them up. One was a little small and didn't have much of a root system. The other is a nice size with plenty of roots.
They will go well with the 3 Musa Zebrina that I got from Home Depot and Walmart.
Now I need 1 or 2 Musa velutina. It also wouldn't hurt if my Musa helen's hybrid seeds germinated.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps
It finally got warm enough to put them back outside.
The whole batch. The 2 in the front that look like they are dead are the Rajapuri pups that I just got from Florida. The corms are so large that I had to use the 12" pots to fit them.
The individual bananas. The 2 large Musa Zebrina are from Home Depot and have a new leaf unfurling. The smaller M. zebrina, from Walmart, is taking longer but the spear of a new leaf has appeared.

Those 2 large bananas may have been mislabelled. Musa zebrina have red on the underside of the leaves. The Musa you have look like some sort of Cavendish cultivar to me. Here is a picture of my Musa zebrina's.Alchris wrote:It finally got warm enough to put them back outside.

They were not labeled, Ryan. People on another website I.D.ed all 3 of them as M. Zebrina.
I don't know for sure what they are, but was advised that the red stalk eliminated the Cavendish varieties. Sitting inside in overcast weather for a week seemed to wash out the color on them. I'll publish a pic later in the summer and see what you think then.

Here are updated pics.
My 3 box store bananas died back a bit when I repotted them and put them in the flower bed. they have finally started to put out a new leaf about every 3rd day. The stems are no longer red and the new leaves are less colorful. Are they a M. cavendish?
The 2 Raja puris have taken root and pushed up new leaves.
Now I need to pour the fertilizer and water to them.

The leaves on all 5 of my bananas have frozen back and I will be bringing them in today. All of the M. Cavendish plants grew pups. The one with 2 pups had a pseudostem that was 2 1/2' tall. The others were shorter. The 2 rajapuris showed little height increase but were producing healthy leaves.
All in all I had a good year with the bananas although their growth slowed after the spring hot spell ended.
