Can you ID this Yucca ?

Post by Knnn » Sat Jul 08, 2006 6:11 pm

Is this Yucca elephantipes?

My knowledge of Yuccas is rather limited, I found this at the local box store with no tag.
Has bleached a bit in full sun but is steadilly growing...

I am not sure until it gets a little bigger, it is one of the following- yucca elephantipes, yucca filimentosa, of recurvafolia. My guess at this stage would recurvafolia? :?

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

To me it looks like Yucca (tip) elephantipes. But like Aaron said when it gets bigger then you should be able to tell. :)

Yucca

Any recurv I have seen and I have seen many as they are a dime a dozen here, are much bluer than that. I would agree with Jay, it looks like elephantipes. They are not that hardy so be prepared to protect it in the winter.

I think this one will come inside for the winter, Going to be too much of a stretch to try and keep it protected in 5B

Hopefully I will find something locally that will be a little more hardy, Have found out that Y. glauca is naturalized here....
Going to take a better look around the neighborhood 8)

Somehow ended up in the middle of Kansas.......

A little town about 30 miles from Salina,
5B/6A Hot summers & usually mild winters, (Generally it gets above freezing during the day but we always get a couple of sub-zero events.)

Best part is the almost constant sunlight :)
With that I can have some hope for in ground plantings.
