30 000 year old Silene stenophylla tissue cultured

THey got viable tissue from a fruit that was buried in the ground, then frosted over.

I read that article yesterday, it was great! There have been a couple other finds like this, one of them was a forest buried under ash in northern China. Also, the Judaean date palm (from 2000 year old seed) is now as tall as a person!

Did they find out if methusala was male or female?

grow such old plants is very interesting. I hope they find even older plant material.

Re Methuselah palm, since they did DNA testing on it, how come they don't know if it's male or female?

I havnt seen any new updates on it, only that the seed fnally got carbon dated. It is indeed around 2000 years old!

Not sure if this is true. AND I'm too lazy to look it up. If the sex of the palm is not know, perhaps they don't yet know what causes sex determination in Phoenix?

I think thats tha case here. They can tell that half its genetic material is from the modern date palm. You would have to assume if they were able to, they would determine sex.
