Ah, thanks for this great post, Aaron.
I needed that!
How lovely everything looks with that ironwork as a backdrop.
Good to see the desert bloom.
Tim, what an oasis you've got!
Here's my contribution. A form of Echeveria:

Look forward to seeing everyone else's.

Blooms aren't wider than a penny, at best.

Excellent pictures everyone! I now have an excuse to post pictures from my trip to Phoenix, AZ! I'm sorry if I end up posting too many pictures.
Some Washingtonias viewed from the ground on the ASU campus.
The mighty Bismarckia nobilis. (also on the ASU campus) I sure want one of these someday. I saw one for sale in Seattle for $60, but I don't think I could handle one right now.
A patch of Washingtonia seedlings outside a Circle K in Tempe, AZ. I saw seedlings all over the place. They must be an annoying weed down there for sure!
A couple of Dioon edule cycads
Some mature date palms.
Some kind of squirrel? I kind of want one...

Never too many!sorry if I end up posting too many pictures
Post more please.
Love the Phoenix...wow.
Sadly, their arborists haven't learned the new rule to NOT prune fronds above 9 and 3 o'clock angles.
Washy seedlings...I'd love that dilemma.

A highlight for me last summer was getting a week-long tour of Monteverde, Costa Rica, with a noted botanist. Here, she took a snapshot of me picking Impatiens that have become invasive weeds in high-elevation cloud forests:

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

That's nice Aaron.
By any chance did anybody see the La Quinta (PGA West) on Golf channel today (Friday)?
Oh man, forget the golf, the palms were un-bloody-believable, they were so beautiful.
Rocky mountains came right down to the edge of the course, palms everywhere.
And the blue sky and sun, just like Aaron's posted pics of the yuccas.
Dunno who won the golf...I watched for the palms.

Gorgeous shots everyone! gave me some ideas for plnts for this coming season.....Few questions maybe if that is ok??
Tim, do the Tatrapanex and hardy ginger overwinter??
Barb, do you reseed every year with the hyacinth beans or do you just let them reseed like the invasive morning glories do every year? Also Barb, are thay as invasive as morning glories? If so I do not want them, although they ar ebeautiful!!
Great shots everyone!

Mike, yup, I collect seed before frost, then 6 weeks before planting, start them indoors in styro coffee cups as the seeds don't seem to survive outdoors.do you reseed every year with the hyacinth beans or do you just let them reseed like the invasive morning glories
D.lablab isn't at all invasive...
Like all "beans" they don't like to have their roots disturbed, so a careful planting into a prepared hole is necessary.
Planted about same time as cukes and tomatoes into very warm soil.
The hottest sunniest spot is where these guys like to grow.
oh...and we spray morning glories with Roundup.
Interesting how that stays with us throughout our lives, huh?I would watch golf for the landscapes

Aaron.............great pool shot.............oh yea........the palms are nice too.
Mike..............the Tetrapanex 'steroidal giant' and Hardy gingers all survived last winter........that was their first winter which was our 2nd warmest on record...............low of 5F with no sustained cold days. The gingers are planted against a house foundation wall which has a basement..............so this area may not get deep freezes..................which is likely the key to their success. This season the Tetrapanex trunk is about 5 feet tall so I built a cage around it..............it has a string of xmas lights along the trunk and filled with leaves too. We'll see how it looks in spring............it appears we will be getting some normal cold for the next three weeks with several lows close to 5F. This winter may end up colder than last winter so it will be a good test. Tetrapanex is such a fast grower...........it will probably grow huge in your area if sited in a warm microclimate. I'm not too sure how hardy the trunk is........it may tolerate zone 8 temps??? Leaves will fry below 30F.
