Epsom Salts?

Post by sashaeffer »

I've done a search, and even when someone else asks the same question no one that replies really address's the original question of the person who posted...

What is the amount of Epsom salt that should be used to say...1 Gallon of water when watering palms?

How often should Epsom salt water be used to water palms? weekly? monthly?

Since it's a "Salt? can Epsom salt build up in the soil and damage the plant like salts in tap water(I don't use it but I know some do) or when using a granular fertilizer over time?

Thanks,

Scott

Yeah, we do tend to babble...

I use epsom salts twice a year, in early and mid-summer.
3 tablespoons for a 5 gallon watering can, stir a couple of times before use.

Generally known as a "tonic", epsom salts give a fast green-up to palms that are getting chlorotic looking...(yellowish green versus very green fronds.)

But specific-for-palms fertilizer (time release) generally has plenty of magnesium.
Remember the old saying "good fertilizer isn't cheap, and cheap fertilizer isn't good".

Good article here:

As to build-up, generally occurs on top and that can be scraped off and discarded.
