SAGO Palm is yellowing

Post by PhilMusa » Tue Feb 27, 2007 8:32 pm

Hi everyone,

I bought a fairly nice size Sago Palm at my nearby Wal*Mart store. It was very nice for $13.00 so I bought it. After only a week I lost the four lower leaves. Now I can see that the upper leaves are slowly turning yellow. What is the problem. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
PhilMusa

I too have they same problem with mine. I can't figure it out. It was doing fine so I have started watering mine more frequently. I think because it is inside and it is getting warmer that it is drying out quicker.
I will let you know.

The problem is most likely that these plants were grown under optimum conditions in a greenhosue with perfect levels of humidity and light, and lots of nitrogen fertilizer. When we buy them and bring them home they are in a completely different environment, probably drier and with less light, and react by yellowing and losing leaves. Don't worry, as long as you are treating them right anew flush of leaves will come in fully acclimatized and the plant will live on!

Hi Wes/Lori,

Thank you for your replies. I will start to give it regular feedings and provide plenty of brightness. The humidity will be the tricky part.

BTW Lori, nice website.

Regards,
Phil

Just mist it regularly with a spray bottle of water (I do all my houseplants about every other day, as I walk around with my cup of coffee in the morning). They love it.
