I have not either, however, I have not tried one since learning more about palms. I think if you keep inside all winter and take it outside this Summer, it will be WELL worth $3.50!!!

LOL... I tend to think of these more as "Produce", ( a fresh one might last 2 - 3 months before going bad

Wes, I do have it right next to the furnace with a couple CFL's for supplemental light, so we'll see what happens. Have you checked out the Lowes in your area? They seem to have everything that's left marked down now.

Not YET. But with my knee being torn ACL, I try not to get out of the truck unless I have to. But I imagine I will probably do that this week.

Wes, Did you hear back from the surgeon yet? Everything getting wrapped up OK for Winter?

I did basic protection for my L.chinensis , maybe something like this is all you need for yours.

They want the swelling to go down before surgery so I have a Dec. 17th Surgery on the schedule.
I found out the exacts, I have a torn ACL, a severly stretched MCL that has micro tears, and a torn Meniscus also.
So basically, I need to have reconstructive knee surgery and start all over.
Honestly, the worst part of this is not the pain, not trouble it has cost, but rather the realization that I will never play organized football ever again. That is my passion, my high, my outlet. I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I don't party, I don't chase woman, playing organized football was all of those for me. Now it's done and THATS killing me.
As far as the palms go. I have everything either in the greenhouse, in a wooden cage inside an unheated garage with lights on (cycads) or inside the house, that I was going to overwinter protected except my Fortunei and my Spanish Dagger. I have left them out because I know they don't need it for another week or so.
What you did with your L.chinensis is almost exactly what I did last year with my Robusta and it would have worked PERFECT except I didn't put a fungiside in there. If you did that, it should work.
Lemme ask a question, I planted two Sable Minors early this spring and had actually grown quite well in the ground on the SOUTH side of my house and kinda sheltered from wind by shrubs on the east & west side. Should they be alright??

I hope everything goes easy with your surgery, maybe things will heal up well enough to allow you to participate to some degree

I really don't have much experience with S.minor yet, the ones here will be going through their first Winter. If we have another mild Winter they may be OK, but I would have a plan "B" ready in case the weather gets ugly.

That was last winter, my wife bought me another one in January, it stayed inside till March, then went outside for the summer.

It's now spending the winter in the GH, so far so good!
