Steve Sillet and I were classmates in "plant physiology" as college juniors. He is still above me (well, I'm taller). His senior project dealt with epiphytes in douglas fir trees and he had to learn tree climbing for that.
Going back even further in time, as a boy in Oregon my parents had a Sequoia in the front yard. The lower branches were still down to the ground so it was a phenomenal climbing tree for a kid.

Small world/big trees!
I have a Sequoia(small one) in the front yard.

Does your sequoia grow fast?
The closest I've tried down here was a dawn redwood at my old house in town. The first winter damaged it more than I expected nut it came back. --Erik
