Only chance for survival CIDP in zones 5-7 if you heating them. Passive protection don't work. Here's two links from other forum where you can see big CIDP in Budapest botanical garden (zone 7) and winter protection for that palm. http://exoten.dyndns.org/cgi-bin/archiv.cgi?function=2&index=F3EC...

I need help with identification of this Yucca or Yucca relative. My friend gave me that plant. He bought plant in local nursery in Teotihuacan area. you have nice palm collection. About climate in Plainfield IN, sounds that you live in little bit warmer zone then you represented in your profile. In inland south east Europe we have regulary, every winter prolonged cold spells between January and February with many days below zero.

Yucca update after summer

We had good summer for Yuccas with many days up to 90F, and one day over 100F. Now is pretty cold here. Here is some of Yuccas Yucca gloriosa 'Variegata'. This one bloomed last fall and produced this summer two new heads. http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp84/m_bara/Hreb%20Exo/P9140036_zps5495ed5f...

Y. rupicola also have serrated leaf margins so if Y. filata 'Big Mama' was pollinated with Y. rupicola pollen that be also promising hybrid. Anyway I'm a happy whatever turn out to be.
