Autumn update, lots of pics

Hi there everyone, I haven't posted here in quite a time. We had a bit rainy summer (it will be qualified as drought in SE US  ), but August arrived with some nice temps in its pockets, but "I ain't got no agua", so no rain for almost a month coupled with 104F, and some things stunted...

Foxtails really need a deep pot, mine haven't shown any leafs yet, but the roots are already out of the drainage holes.

I guess that's a good boost for your plants, especially bananas! Not rather comfortable for humans though. We rarely get amything like steamy here - too dry, even counting in all the rain we had lately. Rain cooled everything a bit, so highest temp for this month will be 98F I suppose. Last June we ...

They seem to be rather hardy here. Even after the cold winter of last they have a lot of damage, but alive nonetheless. The local form is considered to be the hardiest one can get in our country. Some trees survived -26.3C a few years ago, coldest since 1929 here. Here's one of mine, planted this ye...

I got a bush of full-flower pink oleander. It was killed down to the woody parts last winter (-11F), but is now regrowing. No signs of flowering yet though. Here's a pic of it as of two weeks ago. http://s2.postimage.org/TsKYEcJ.jpg I'm planning to get an plain-flower form, they are said to be hardi...

Thanks everyone, been away for a while, sorry for no response. The yard is indeed protected from the north side a bit, but the buildings aren't very high. I was thinking about some mulch, but decided to wait for the soil to warm up and put it later. The rains are rare guests here, so it should be he...

Thank you for your replies! Erik, I hope I converted -23.8C to F correctly...that should be -11F! I used google  It's good your chammy is back, and it's nice to be able to use heat. I don't use it because there's a danger in using the electricity - you never know when the power outage is going ...

Jim, thanks for warning!

Mike, thanks, Volyn is a region in Northwest Ukraine, I'm 550 miles southeast of that region. So really not that close.

My palms (pics)

Hi everyone, as promised, here's some pics of my palms. Not a lot to show yet, I hope in Augsut there'll be more. It's warm here currently, so the palms are outgrowing their damage. Trachy that survived -11F in Jan. with no protection. http://s1.postimage.org/gxcCt_J.jpg Washy filifera, styrofoam bo...

Thanks everyone, you guys have an awesome forum!
It's not a lot of exotics in town, but I'm trying to grow everything that can possibly grow (and what I can put my hands on  ) I'll post some pics soon, not much to see after the cold winter, but freshly planted stuff still looks good.

Thanks, Erik and Jim! Good to know there are people connected to Ukraine even so far away. Erik, All the cities you've mentioned - Lviv, Odessa, Kiev are really nice, and I'd say worth the visit, being rather different. I'd also add the Crimea to the list. My climate is similar to Odessa, it's 1-2 d...

Greetings from Kherson, Ukraine

Hello everyone, my name is Yuri, I'm from southern Ukraine, and I'm into hardy palms & other accompanying stuff for a bit of time now. I've found that among the other PNW cities Walla-Walla resembles my climate rather closely. I grow a few palms outside, some of them have been already tested by ...
