alright, I'm confused. Doesn't a raised bed expose the roots to more cold than planting it at level ground? I was just woundering the same thing. It'll warm up faster, but cool of faster too. I'd think freezing the roots being exposed to the winter cold like that. It would be like leaving it in a p...

Was it outside in a cold rain before you brought it in, and maybe freeze? I don't understand why that size a W. Robusta spear would rot. If you can, wash it out good. If you have a pressure nozzle on a hose that you can wash it out with, that would work. Do the best you can with whatever you have on...

Where is that S. louisiana located in Oklahoma? I'd love to go see it this coming spring to see how it came through our ice storm. I'm also in Zone 6 in Oklahoma with some S. louisiana, although not mature yet, as well as some other different type Sables. I do have a S. minor Tex ego type that has p...

Paw-paw trees have nice tropical looking leaves and are z5 hardy.

The needle palm only needs to be covered with a big pile of leaves to over winter.

Elephant ears & canna (easy to dig bulbs & tubers for winter storage) grow fast.

Crape myrtles

I have 6 different verietys growing well here in Z6 (NE Ok). The 1st winter each one was planted, they froze back, but came back from the base in late spring to bloom fully late summer. Once they became established, they have very little die back over the winters. Mine start blooming by mid summer &...

Yeah I'm glad to be here. It's just too bad there isn't a lot of members. First, welcome to the board. This is my 1 st post here too. This is a new board, so it'll take a while for it to catch on. It will though. There are lots of other palm nuts like us, who grow palms where "palms don't grow...
