Nice Plants I live in Jonesboro, IL it's about 40 min south of Carbondale. I know the McDonald's in Carbondale those crape myrtles are at they are very nice. I have issues with pocket gophers they like to eat my yuccas roots, they also have killed many other plants. I set mouse traps to kill them. They tend to do more damage over the winter and prefer newly planted plants but will eat most anything.

The high here today was 38F the low was -3F. Tomorrow the high is -3F and the low is -3F wacky. We have had like 6 inches of snow so far and it's really windy, very wicked out their. I hope my plants make it.

I decided to ditch the plastic bags and used my tomato cage bubble wrap method I had been using for the Trachys. Going to leave my Sabal Minors and my Needle palms to fend for themselves this year as an experiment, it has gotten down to 6F and they don't have any damage yet.

Looked nice before as well as after. I planted some Graptopetalum Paraguayense last year it struggled at first then towards the end of summer it started to look better. I covered them up in my cacti bed with a cold frame so far has got down to 6 degrees and they are still alive.

Hi it's been a while since iv been on here. So I wrapped two small Trachys with heavy duty black plastic bags. Cut a slit in the bottom of the bags then used rocks and bricks to weight them down then put straw in the bags and tied the top. Will the black plastic kill the palm cause it to turn yellow...

Did you put a bucket over it? thats what i did 3 traps surrounding the hole then i put a bucket over it keeps the squirrels away from it also its like a death trap they come out and have no place to go.
