Doug, good results considering the winter you folks had. Hilarious that the lights are still in the manufacturer's retail holders. Obviously worked. I always lay my C9s on the ground to keep the ground from freezing. And as Beny says, heat goes up, keeping the fronds warmish. Thanks for the up...

Tell Bill I'm too old for the male. :clown:  And a big hello back to him...thanks. Hope Bill's palms fared as well as yours during snowmageddon this winter. And send some of that snowmelt water out to the Okanagan where it's needed. My mind still remembers when he bought all those huge palms an...

Lobbying by Monsanto prevents governments from doing what the public wants, which is GMO labelling on all food products. No matter how small/minimal the GMO ingredient is in the total product. I say let the public decide whether they want to eat that stuff. Multinational deciding for us? ya right. T...

Points well made, Jim. I always thought a T-3 was way too warm...we were trying to get a Trachy more hardy after all. Not keep it from ever seeing freezing temps. The trunk was bent last year too, and I wondered if it was getting too dark there with adjacent trees shading it from even morning sun, w...

Nope, not gonna hurricane cut it. Watered the hell out of it...no water since last September. Going to hold off checking whether trunk/spears are mushy... I'll prolong the bad news. Yup, this winter (and last) were mild compared to years ago. We had a night of -21C in November, followed by on...

Big Boy Trachy not doin' well
Removed palm hut finally. Door had been open for a couple of months. It's leaning like mad. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/16236720873" title="008 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7585/16236720873_b324c02984.jpg" wid...

John, my BoP hated being in the cold building every winter, and never bloomed. Despite fertilizing late summer in other years, its first time blooming was the first winter it spent in the warm house by a sunny sidelight at front door. Preferred fertilizer for BoP is 3-1-5, or 12-4-8 with extra Potas...

Always loved that circle. Great seeing the growth they've made in a few short years. Scrolling down your Flickr page is a jaw-dropper. From palms in Kelowna and Vancouver to your winter protection; also everything outside in summer. Wow. The ONLY thing I have on you is my BoP is blooming. :booty: Bu...

B.armata and W.filifera(robusta?) sailed through winter
I'm amazed at how robust this Washy spear looks...man, is it ever thick! The other Washy isn't doing as well. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/16581383950" title="246 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7627/16581383950_1c3ff9...
