I think this one has a good chance of recovering from winter. There's still a sliver of green left in it.

Of course i'm kidding. Here's a different one that might pull through. These had no protection.

Jay how old are they? When were they planted? I had know idea you had some in the ground already. Has the spear pulled in the second one in the pics?

That's sad that you lost the one. I hope that the damaged one recovers.

Can you give us the details of both of them; sun exposure, wind exposure, moisture exposure etc. so that we can learn from your misfortune.

Hi guys,

They are just small 1 gallon size trachys. I planted them last summer. The crispy one was planted in between two trees and in kinda a valley so i think there was a lot of water that wasn't draining very well. You can see the other one is planted on a mound where the water drains better. The dead one was just put in the wrong spot. Oh well that's how we learn where the best spots are in our yards. I had planned on protecting both of them this winter but just never got around to it. Actually never got around to protecting anything. So far it looks like only one yucca and three or so cacti have died. There's still time for more to die though. :( I gave the spear a good tug on the trachy in the second pic and it's still good. :)

Jay

That is amazing how the two differ so much from each other  That's why it is nice to plant as many as you can, so you don't lose hope :D

Jay - hold your high , not everyone gets the chance to kill palms and cacti. Why don't you take it easy this evening and hit it hard again in the morning.

How cold did you get there?
Hopefully your one trachy will pull through.
