Chamaerops humilis petiole coloring.

Here are two Chamaerops humilis of equal age, one that has green petiole bases and the other reddish, like Washingtonia robusta. There is a great deal of variation with Chamaerops from leaf shape, size and coloring, to trunk thickness and so on.

Perhaps you have the volcano variety on the left. The one on the right looks like all of mine.
You also get the ceferia var and the single trunking var. You sure are right the chamaerops humilis has many varietations.

You got me thinking Wes, so I when back down to the greenhouse and pulled a few of my Chamaerops humilis 'cerifera' for comparison as well. The example in the fore ground has small compact leaves whereas the other two cerifera appear normal in size. As for 'volcano' it will likely be quite some time before we see that one here in N. America. The Europeans seem to have 'em all.
