Will these seed be viable?

Post by wheelman1976 » Sun Jul 29, 2018 8:52 am

Can anyone tell me if these seeds will be viable? This is the first year my efflorescence has produced seeds. I have three trees in my yard in Michigan, and the other that's doing this is the same. The third didn't produce anything this year. Wondering if I'm lacking the other sex that these won't pollinate?

id let them mature longer... even if off the tree. them put them in a Ziploc bag of water, no air.... they'll germinate best if at 75f or greater...maybe on top your water heater

Will I see a color change to note that they're ready to pick? I recall the ones I got from another tree that germinated were brown.... these clearly are quite green yet.

So I had to cut off my seed branches (or whatever you call them) when I covered the trees up for the winter. They've sat in my garage for a couple weeks now and I noticed they're starting to dry and get a little wrinkled. Any idea what I want to do at this point for planting them? I've cleaned off a bunch of branches and a bucket full of still green slightly dried/wrinkled seeds.

So just an update, I have over 100 seedlings sprouting from this batch so evidently they are viable! I actually sowed them a few different ways and funnily enough, the method where I didn't do anything other than throw the seeds right into the dirt and barely covered them seemed to be the best way to grow them. Now I don't know what to do with all these things!
