What kind of Palm and what low temp are you looking for?

I'll pull mine from my barrels sometime in April after I get back from vacation and I see lows in the lower 30s.

I uncovered mine last weekend. Mediteranean palm, trachy and mexican fan palm. All look great. Also musa basjoo and musa sikkimensis. They had both started growing. Zone 5 Canada. I had no damage at all to palms. It was a mild winter.

Problaby first week of april. Still snow and ice everywhere :S Sun is bright though..

Every year is a learning experience for me, always trying and learning new information. From what I've learned, potted plants exposed to the elements are WAY less cold hardy than plants in the ground. So for me living in Grand Junction CO, zone 6b-7a, I usually bring in potted palms around the end of October when temps bottom out in the upper 20s and highs fail to reach 60, in spring same thing, early March when highs and lows are around 60 and 30. Sometimes in the winter I'll lug them outside for a few hours on a warm sunny day, just to haul them right back inside at night. When they're outside, ill throw a plastic sheet on my palms on unseasonably cold rainy/snowy days, to block moisture, because I've lost more palms to cool and wet than I have to cold and dry. with a greenhouse you can keep your palms outdoors all year long as long as you stay in that 60-30'F day-night range.

The size of the palms matters too in regard to
when they can be uncovered,Trachys(Fortunei)
with 2'+ to 3' trunks can be outside for 3 to 7
days in temps in the20F (lows) 35F (highs) range..
.smaller Trachys should not be left out in temps that
are much below freezing at first.

My Waggie has been uncovered for a little while
already with temps in the 50s and 60s because
it has been dry,if temps are marginal and there is
a lot of rainfall its better to leave them covered until
you get some true warmth because they are not
going to bust loose anyway.

Have uncovered all of mine already BUT protection is close by as it's March and weather can change with little notice. Protection method I started using is super easy to put up and take down when we get a string of nice days. Not worried about providing heat now so all lights and cords have been removed and put away. Protection now is more for snow protection and not so much cold.

Of all the stuff I have in the ground, aside from the Needle palm, my small Waggie looks the best.

I'm from Pennsylvania have a 6 foot windmill Palm with 3 foot of trunk. Just wondering when people think it's safe to uncover. Thanks.
