Tough Chinese fan palms

Post by sashaeffer » Sun Jun 22, 2014 4:38 am

After having success overwintering Chinese fan palms in the ground and surviving, but not having a season long enough to where they look like much I dug one up to make room for a Sabal and put root mass in old grow pot and stuck in stream to one of my ponds since I knew they liked water. It really took off and seems to like it.

Have a smaller pond that fish were stressing from the sun and heat to bought a new Chinese fan palm to put in clay pot surrounded by pea gravel and put in water. We'll see how it does since this palm will be subjected to more water than the one in the stream, but it at least looks nice and it does provide some shade and shelter for the fish. Glad these palms are inexpensive to buy to experiment with.
