Transplanting question....another one.

Post by sashaeffer » Tue May 06, 2014 3:26 pm

Moved this Trachy about a month ago from where it was at because it was too close to the house. Only moved it about 6 feet. Dug easily, and in well draining soil.

as you can see in the pictures some of the fronds are hanging because they broke, but in all palm looks droopy. It does have a few good spears coming up though.

I check soil moisture as I don't want to over water it, and soil moisture says "wet" and other than when I transplanted it and gave it a good soak, it's only had spring rains.

Does it need more water than I'm giving it? or should I cut off all the fronds so strength goes to new spears much like a Palmetto's "hurricane cut" looks like?

This palm was a $25 special a couple of years ago, but since it's survived in the ground two winters and it's grown so well have gotten attached to it.

BTW, it's on the South side of my house so gets a lot of good sun.

No no no, dont cut anything, its a nice looking little trachy as long leaves are green you dont cut them they do photosinthesis and also feed the plant.. except if you want diff. look get rid of the few low (as some would say) "yellowish" (how stupid that sounds, incorrect also) ones and that's it. Off topic what happened to english language?
Scott it's a cute it'll come up nicely.

The Trachy looks great, just a little normal transplant shock. Leave it as is and ensure you have consistent watering by yourself every other day, once or twice at least with a Root Booster slow release fertilizer. If it rains every other day, that will make your life easier, but the root fertilizer is a must.

Scott,
Lots of water as long as drainage is good.
Should bounce back nicely.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
