Balboa Botanical Gardens

Post by sashaeffer » Sat Feb 22, 2014 5:27 am

Just got back from a trip to San Diego with did include another visit to Jungle Music and me leaving more money with Phil lol.

Just wanted to say to any member here that if you find yourself in the San Diego area to make a point to visit the Balboa Botanical Gardens and visit their Palm Canyon and Shade palm/plant display. The park itself is FREE and you can make a day of it, and see some pretty amazing in the ground species.

Here is a link to photos I took while there this past week.

lol no Barb...not there. ;) was really nice to see some full size examples of things I have at home though.

I did drop some cash as Phil's and a Craigslist seller that I found and bought some stuff from. Works out of his house. He had Mealy Bug palms. 1 gallon size for $250! and had a 4 foot? one in the ground for $1,800

BEAUTIFUL palms though.

Again, waiting for more "normal" weather to arrive as a couple are NOT cold hardy at all.

What I have coming.....

Brahea Super Silver

BRAHEA DECUMBENS

cryosophyla staurontha (because I killed my first one)

PTYCHOSPERMA SALOMONENSE

Neophloga Dypis Pink Crownshaft

and lastly a rare THRINAX ECKMANIANA seedling.

Hope so. Have everything on hold until weather improves here. Back to sub zero temps next week in MARCH! (unheard of here)
