Where to buy Pindo palm?

Hello, I was wondering where I can buy a pindo palm (preferably in Texas, so I can drive and pick it up)...I would like one that is old enough to fruit, how old and how large do they have to be to fruit? And will they fruit in zone 6? For winter protection, I would tie up fronds and build a small greenhouse around it...any ideas? Thanks!

Big box stores (Home Depot, Lowes) in Oklahoma sell them.

For a big one, go to Dallas, esp. the farmer's market area.

Haha! Loved the video! Nothing wrong with being crazy about palms! Do you know how tall they have to be before they fruit? I'd really like to be able to grow a fruiting pindo, as I hear the fruit is quite tasty! I drove to Dallas to buy my Trachy, so I'd be more than happy to go back for a Pindo! It's kind of a fun drive!

That would be impressive to get one to fruit in Kansas. Not sure how far you are willing to drive but I have them in Florida. To give you an example of what size fruiting is. The small one in the front has been fruiting for two years in the first photo. You may be able to find some 45 gallons that are fruiting. I can ship up to a 7 gallon.

Wow!! Very nice looking!! I'm hoping I can get one to fruit here, I know of a guy who has two that fruit yearly in Michigan, so hopefully I can make it happen here...anyway, how much $ for your pindos?

I do not bare root any material so I assume shipping to Kansas will be around $35.00 to $40.00. I sell the 7 gallons for $40.00. I will be selling a lot of cold hardy palms this year as I have been traded a bunch for some of our palms.

I noticed you had been asking about landscaping in another thread. Check out Banana Joe's posts and his facebook page. He has tons of photos that might interest you.
I live on San Juan Island WA half the year about 10 miles south of Joe. I have been torturing palms up here for awhile. He has been at it for over 20 years.

And yes the fruit does taste good.

We mainly do hybrid palms from the Butia. I deliver all over the state of FL to many growers of palms. Over 600 combined acres between them. I give them a good deal on my palms and in turn they give me a good deal on there's.

I am not aware of anyone selling the fruit. A lot of people make Jelly out of it that is pretty tasty.
