Guessing it was close to zero a couple of times inside the building when we hit -20C twice.
This Livistonia chinensis is dying after looking very very good all summer. Strange.

Princeps looks really nice,as a precaution/preventative you may want to scoop out the soil
around the base of the palm(1")and replace with some gravel-fish aquarium sized works well.
These palms are very susceptible to basal plate rot.

Just unwrapped my 3 palms Under that protection and they looks having the exterior palms burned. We v had 3-4 night at -24c to -28c here. But the temp. Inside never went down Under -6c. I ve had the same problem last year after having a low of -27c. So i think the problem is not the temp. Inside the wrapping but the exterior fronds touching the enclosure. At -27c outside, the palm touching the protection may feel at least -20c.
So today im gonna add pinkpanther insulation fiberglass over the heatcable to prevent that. So the protection will be, tie the palms, heatcable around trunck and foliage, insulation, arbotex then tarp or wrapping. Will see
Cause we will have a big cold snap this week, with 5 days with high of -12c to -20c ...and low between -20c to -28c .....Global warming, yeah ...sure of that...

Jim, thanks for the tip on preventing Princeps rot.
Will do, even though they're bone dry in that building.
Michael, yeah can't understand why the Chinese Fan Palm is croaking.
So pretty in summer, it just kind of flopped over recently.
Obviously too dry, damn!
Beny, take some pics when you re-wrap.
Early on I was concerned about any tight wrapping as no air circulates.
But the biggest issue is fronds touching the very cold plastic.
IMO, another benefit of insulation just inside the plastic cover is that it could soak up some moisture instead of dripping on palm fronds.
Hope they'll be find with a bit of tweaking.
