Transplanting question

Has anyone had to dig up and transplant either a Windmill Palm or Mexican Fan Palm? I may have to to that in the spring to get them further away from my house and was curious how well either species transplanted. Both have been in the ground for at least two winters so far.

I have 3 windmill palms and 2 came out of pots (one 3 foot one 5 foot) and into the ground and they didn't even notice. My big one ~8ft had a 2 foot root ball when I received it again it didn't notice. So give it a nice big root ball and it should transplant just fine.

On a sort of related note my Chamaerops humilis had a very good size sucker coming out of the base ~3feet I went in with a sawzall carefully cut it away from the main trunk and divided the root ball with the sawzall and the tree didn't even notice a little bit. Both mother and sucker are doing great!

Thanks, and thats good to know too about the European Fan Palm. Have one of those as well in a large pot and considered putting it into the ground in the spring as well as I'm sure it would do much better....maybe taking the place of one of the other two that I have to move. (eve of house going to get into way of rapidly growing palms)
