Today's haul

Post by seedscanada »

Okay so I bought a few plants today.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/seedscanada/9900602424/" title="Today's Rice Road haul by seedscanada, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5517/9900 ... 6838_c.jpg" width="800" height="449" alt="Today's Rice Road haul"></a>

Some Phormium, 5' tall $5 each
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/seedscanada/9900581476/" title="Phormium tenax variegated by seedscanada, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2894/9900 ... 5c40_c.jpg" width="449" height="800" alt="Phormium tenax variegated"></a>

And nice Chamaerops, their hardy tropicals at Rice Road Greenhouses are down 25%off of some already good prices on top quality plants, still an excellent selection..
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/seedscanada/9900683093/" title="Chamaerops humilis 310 by seedscanada, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3736/9900 ... ea5a_c.jpg" width="449" height="800" alt="Chamaerops humilis 310"></a>

And my first ever Foxtail palm.. 10' tall, the last one left was at a blowout price of $10. How could I say no?
Pot planted it to enjoy outside for a few weeks, then it will spend the winter in our foyer.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/seedscanada/9900531715/" title="Foxtail palm312 by seedscanada, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3791/9900 ... a398_c.jpg" width="800" height="449" alt="Foxtail palm312"></a>

Thanks for looking!

Very nice!
I'm shopping for a Med. Fan palm that size. Hoping to get one in Dallas next month.

I have a foxtail about that size. It is happy going from indoors (most of year) to outdoors (summer).

Very nice. I'll probably check out Rice Road this weekend to see what they have left.

Don't over water that Foxtail......like I did my 8 footer last winter :( never killed a palm so fast as I did when I brought mine inside.

Adam,

If you decide you want to divide your chamaerops humilis. I just recently did mine I started to have a good size trunk growing at 45 degrees hiding my other trunk so I went in dug up the plant and divided using a sawzall and now have 2 good sized plants. Neither looks worse for wear. I figured there would have been a bunch of videos on the topic on youtube. But after I checked I found there wasn't. I should have grabbed one when I did mine. I'll grab a couple of pictures to show the results.

Thanks for the tip Scott.

Ryan, Barb, Tim and Tim, you like those? I thought I was seeing things when the $25 price tag appeared on that Chamaerops. It was old and ragged and require about 20 minutes of trimming off old fronds and weeds. It was the only one at that price. Guess they did not want to trim it!

I think everything as a great buy but I'm more impressed with the 5 dollar phormiums..some of them, if I can find them, are 30 or 40 dollars in the house plant section! I have a nice bronze one I got from the UK but I don't think I have seen the ones you have. Any name tags on those?
