Hi there everyone. I've been attempting to grow Eucalyptus debeuzevillei for a while now and they die only days after they germinate.
If anyone has some trees of hardy eucalyptus species I would love to take some off of your hands. I am looking ideally for around two or three plants or seedlings. I am in zone 7a.
I have many plants I can offer as a trade or I can buy them outright.
My extra plants are
Yucca glauca, schottii and brevifolia(still a little tender)
Callicarpa americana
Phyllostachys bambusoides roots
Oh hundreds of Osage orange seedlings and small trees,
Persimmon! Diospyros virginiana freshly sprouted seedlings

If you don't have eucalyptus but are interested any of these feel free to contact me as well

why do the Euc's die after 2 days? What is your method?

Tim, its the microscopic lumberjacks. The euc gets a quarter inch tall and on the fourth or fifth day is felled by itty bitty bugs that scurry along the soil surface.
Maybe I need to use a different soil or provide different conditions in the future, or just fumigate the soil intermittently to stave them off.
That's all I figure. Any other suggestions? Perhaps a favorite seed starting soil type?

Prep your soil the day before..... pour boiling water on it and let it cool...

yes....try to sterilize your soil before sowing the seed......microwave, heat or purchase seed starting mix at the store which is sterile. :D

Yuck, but obviously not fungus gnats.
Wonder what they are.

I haven't any Eucs to offer you but if you strike out, Barrie from Salt Spring Island has/had tons of them in all sizes.
Not on here much anymore but we could find him if required.

Somebody contacted me about Yucca schotti seeds (I didn't have any).
And can't remember who wanted them. :? :?
Reminds me of the saying: of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

Oh...just a word of caution on using your family's microwave or regular oven to sterilize soil.
It stinks to high heaven...your wife will want a new appliance.
