Magnolia grandiflora '24 below' update

It is now confirmed. My magnolia grandiflora '24 below' made it through winter with ZERO dieback. All the buds are now swelling and it's beginning to leaf out.

It was wrapped with plastic its first winter.

Thats awesome! Lets hope it lasts quite a few more winters!

Agreed. Your 24 below looks like my 'Springgrove #19" did this spring, some leaf damage but not too much. My #19 subsequently dropped its leaves and it in the process to leafing out. And the bud that it had is still firm and will pop probably in July. I'm thinking these Spring grove plants are crossed with virginiana!

Did you protect your Springgrove #19 at all in winter?

I gave it a wrapping with frost cloth and a deep mulch layer.
