Another Nolina sold as Matapensis
I absolutely adore these plants and have four separate seed grown species currently growing in the garden. Today after a lot of hassle and a six week wait the Nolina arrived. Sadly (for me that is) there has been a bit of leaf damage both physical and weather wise. Talking with Paul Spraklin our local arid expert, he believes it is Nolina Hibernica

Hi Andy,
GREAT specimen! I don't know the species but it's a beauty.
Do those truck forming Nolina bloom in your area?

Andy, does your backyard have enough sunlight for growing these desert plants?
Nolina is beautiful though...

Thanks for your comments
Tim..... Most Yuccas will flower here.... eventually. I don't believe Nolinas are any different but I don't of any that have yet
Igor... We do get sunshine now and again and Yuccas seem to grow reasonably well despite the poorer light levels. However rain is a problem and trunked yuccas left unprotected came through last Winter( has it gone yet?) with some damage.
They have nice trunked Nolina Longifolia for sale here also but at -6/8C hardiness its not for me

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Great looking plants.
I went to London last year for the first time and was very surprised at the number of yuccas and even palms that were in the city. I saw many of the trunking variety as you pictured in small parks or in the gardens and yards of homes in Mayfair and Kensington.
I live in the Greater Washington D.C area, and while we are probably warmer than the U.K in the summer, your temps are probably much more stable and moderate.

London has its own special Microclimate usually 3-4C warmer than where I am. Phoenix Canariensis can easily grow there and in particular Inner London. I cannot grow it at all. The UK climate is changing for the worse ... six cold Summers on the trot, five colder Winters and yes anywhere in North America is warmer than the UK in Summer but maybe not the Winter Glad you liked the Nolina BTW.VirginiaPalms wrote:Great looking plants.
