Hi guy's , just opened the box and unwrapped the palms today finally

...My both Trachy Under the mummywrap experimental method had problems du to the heat cable who was to strong and stop to work in february. So, both Trachy had a lot of burn tips. My biggest one will survive, not sure for the smaller one. The other palms Under the standard box method had no problem. Except the big Needle palm, it was really nice at the beginning of march but 3 weeks later it had a lot of burn fronds. I had a 23 watts always on Inside the box, so it was to hot . Really need to use a thermostat or thermocube for regulating the temperature Inside. Thats what i did for the other palms with the box and mummywrap too.
I posted 2 videos on my youtube channel ( its in french, but im sure you will understand something

) , will post more videos in the next few days. I will uncover the other palms at my customers around Montréal.
The minimum temperature we had here north of Montréal was a fantastic -30c

...and many night Under -22c..

There s 3 others palms that i uncovered today, 1 Butia Capitata and 2 Trachycarpus Fortunei near my home here in Mirabel. No damage at all, perfect green

. With the box method, its still the best way to do. Till i find the technique for the mummywrap. You can see new videos on my YOUTUBE channel (expressiontropicale).

Good job!
You may want to consider some moisture protection(putting a barrier down)to
protect the roots if that amount of snow is common, that is a lot of cold
water that has to drain down through the roots before the soil warms...

Thx guy's,
Jim, i never had that kind of problem with the melting snow. Ive got a tarp over the box that lay down to the ground, then i add some mulch and that s it. On the videos, you see a certain amount of snow. But normally, when i uncover the palms, there s no snow on the ground. This year is an exception, when april arrive, all the snow is normally gone and then i uncover the palms.
Now, the spring if finally here

...high in the 50-60 F..
