Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Keith,
the 51 pics on your Flickr link made me drool...fabulous!

Where the plants were labeled, was that in a botanical garden?

Fabulous palms, cacti, agaves, and yuccas...holy cow those yuccas are nice.
Too bad about that fried Beaucarnea on pic 603, obviously pretty tender.

Agave size on #523 is impressive!!! wow.

And the blue palms, guessing those were Brahea armata...gorgeous.

By the way, did any of those palm seeds make it into your pocket? Ahem

Thanks for this! :D

I was a bit confused as to what these plants were but judging by the the feathery tufts at the end of the leaves they look like Dasylirions?

Thanks Barb Yes it was a botanical garden with the labeled plants. Most of the agaves were huge. Also loved the blue palms. And I was tempted about the palm seeds, tried to convince wife to put a few in pocket while going thru airport. lol

The weather was a little cooler at first lows near 0C highs 16 C. The last 3 days was around 6C low to a high of 22C and full sun.

That's what they are, Dasylirion wheeleri. One of my all time favorite plants, love the trunks one those. Thicker than most yucca trunks. :D

Mine too. :P :P :P
Anybody ever grown them from seed?

EDIT: RPS hasn't got seeds listed for sale. Have never seen any listed.
Probably because they're hard to find?

some D. wheeleri seedlings a year or two ago
I had forgotten that; good memory Tim
They came up, and promptly fell over and died in the heat.
The others did too, think they were y.schotii?

Thanks for the ebay link Keith.
Will look for just the dasy 'coz I've got seedpots coming out of the rafters.

The seedlings I have came from a plant next to this giant. 6' tall and 5' wide. My seedlings have lived through nights in the low 20's-teens F.

Hast22,
I think I have some if you want a few? They take awhile before they sart growing fast. They grow like grass for the first year or 2. And yes, they will need water after they sprout, but that is up too you.

My Wheeleri hasn't got the blues.... it's GREEN with envy  Over here Dasylirion Wheeleri appears to be sold as a different colour. Mind you with the crap summer temperatures we get, that's probably the reason why

Dasylirion wheeleri seedlings

Post by hasty22 » Sun Jul 14, 2013 7:48 pm

Hi guys. I started some Dasylirion wheeleri seeds 2 weeks ago. Thanks to Aaron for the seeds. I got 15 seedlings in beer cups already and the ziploc bag is still full. I run out of beer, beer cups and cactus soil. I hope they will survive. Barb said her seedlings died from the heat I believe a few years ago. She was probably yelling at them . lol.
<a href="http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/khast ... 2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b54 ... d87702.jpg" border="0" alt="Dasylirion wheeleri seedlings photo DSCF3409_zps1ed87702.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/khast ... f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b54 ... 92d73f.jpg" border="0" alt="new seedlings july 2013 photo DSCF3411_zps1292d73f.jpg"/></a>

15 of these beer cups are Dasylirion wheeleri , the other are various yucca, several golden barrel cactus. The seeds seem to love the heat in the greenhouse for germinating. Within 2 weeks I have had Dasylirion wheeleri, various yuccas, golden barrel cactus, musa sikkimensis banana, musa acuminata banana, and another cactus.

Hey Keith, congrats on the germination of all that stuff.

You ran out of beer???? oh no!
Styrofoam cups work great too, cheaper than the beer cups.

Good work!
