Nannorrhops beautiful color, even as seedlings
Striking color difference, even as 3 week old seedlings:
At left is Nannorrhops arabica (silver), compared to N. ritchiana beside it at right.

They are beautiful palms-but so intolerant of any cold and
moisture,in the air or soil-they made it through the winter
a few times here but died in the spring-to high maintenance here.

Didn't remember that you had Nannorrhops outside, Jim.
Guess I'd better stop misting them in the basement, huh?

I have one outside covered with bucket. I'm not sure what to expect because leaves have brown spots on them.

No heat at all, Henoh?
That's encouraging for a Nannorrhops.
A few warm days and it should get going.
Is it planted in a raised area where water doesn't accumulate?

So much for Testing this Palm out then. My backyard were my Palm Garden is notorious for Flooding. Funny part is its in the middle of the back yard. Lol.
Nobody panics when people plant normal trees because its part of the plan... if someone plants a Palm EVERYONE LOSES THERE MINDS!

I base it off of this they came from the Desert. So, Water them once a month. Least that is what I do. I better tell my comrade in Avon Indiana to leave his in his Pot.lucky1 wrote:Didn't remember that you had Nannorrhops outside, Jim.

Yeah, Princeps is definitely a knock-out gorgeous palm, deserving to be more widely planted.
I've got a few seedlings that I'll baby for a couple more years before planting out.
But there's a really hot and dry area reserved for the Nannorrhops arabica silver.
No snow ever lands there, protected from winter's NW winds by an overhang.
So it might have a chance, especially with subterranean trunk and clumping habitat similar to C.humilis.
Or maybe I should plant it over the septic tank for warmth.
