Yet another new addition in the winter

Have seen this nice Windmill palm at local nursery and kept waiting for price to drop. finally down to 50% off, picked up for $25.00 Not that I needed another one(have 6 already of various sizes) but just hate for a bargain to go unbought! May keep this one inside, and not in the garage to over winter since it's been spending time in the nursery greenhouse so far.

Good price for that nice specimen, Scott.

If you can duplicate the nursery GH temps (day and night), it'll be happy.

With six Trachies, you could have a forest outside! :bounce:

Wife was NOT HAPPY about bringing yet another palm home. :(

Are you DONE yet? was her question....I said no, I still want to get a Candy Cane Palm from Phil at Jungle Music when he gets more in to sell. lol

Phil always has great, new things on his website. I can't resist sometimes.

He's the best!
Wife was NOT HAPPY
That occurred to me when I saw the photo ... how's she going to get to that buffet/hutch? :booty:

Well, a lot of the plants in that room are here just for the winter, although I told her I was going to leave the Black Bamboo inside. That hutch was her moms, and is just there as a heirloom, not one that is used.

Funny, out of the pic I have a Coconut palm that is growing like crazy! while other palms have slowed or stopped growing, this one hasn't slowed down at all.

leave the Black Bamboo inside
They look great on a patio in summer, and sound so nice on a windy day.

The only stuff that's growing here are palms that germinated during winter. :?
But definitely slowing down from low light conditions.

I had mine outside, and the upper part tied to the Pergola I have on 2nd patio so wind wouldn't break them off. Since it's a "grass" I can keep the height to ceiling level and let pot fill in with new shoots. I'll see how it does over the winter but so far it's been doing good sprouting new green leaves. I just have to keep it watered enough.

Time to get a greenhouse if the W does not want plants inside the house

I have one....it's full too. Small ceramic heater keeps it nice and warm, and humidifier keeps plants happy. Wish I had bought a bigger one now... Pic is from last winter before I filled it. 6x8 hobby greenhouse bought at Menards for like $150

I don't think non palm people really get this-my(x)girlfriend was jealous
of all the attention my palms got-if I would have known......................
I would have been home digging out my cactus cover instead of over there
trying to dig out my relationship-they both collapsed....whatugonnado,huh?

Scott, that GH was only $150 ?????
Oh man, that's dirt cheap!

I'm sooooo sorry, Jim.
But the ex was obviously not mature enough to understand your plant passion.
And that you were entitled to have that.
She probably had a hobby that YOU were perfectly contented to let her enjoy.
Funny (sad) when it's not reciprocal.
Selfish actually.

May your next GF love plants too!
But not so much that she takes over your plants :argue:

Cough, cough.

Barb, most of the box stores will sell what they have left pretty cheap at the end of the year.

Never that cheap in Canada.
probably why all the box stores are setting up shop north of the border...because we Canadians never get stuff real cheap.

Wonder if I can get that in my car if I do some cross border shopping...

Came in two boxes, one with metal pieces, other with poly panels didn't take up much room and was pretty easy to put up. Wife and I did it and mounted the base on 4x4 treated posts(to gain height) other people will use old railroad ties. They are bigger, but you'd have to have a saw to cut something that thick.

That's a nice one for the price. I saw some about the same size around here for twice as much...and this is trachy country. Hope it grows fast for you.

At that price for the greenhouse, I would of bought 2 or 3 lol. I'm thinking of talking my sister into letting me build a greenhouse at the back of her place (more room then my house) and start growing some of my own plants to retail out.

Keep in mind it was end of the year clearance price, not the regular retail. Just have to keep an eye out at the end of the season.

Naturally I wish it was bigger now. Again it's 6x8 and have it sitting on a concrete pad (8x12) where a dog kennel once was. Google PVC greenhouse and there are all kinds of simple, inexpensive plans on there to build a greenhouse of any size. Didn't do that when I bought mine, I was looking at PVC for a different idea.
