I also planted my Martianus :P

Before you go thinking I am ruthless, the leaves
on it seem to get eaten by WSM..... before I can catch them, the damage is done.
I hope they are still on it(devious)

Hi jim, do you use heat tape for your Washy ( burlap, heat tape, etc.). See my post on the cold hardy general forum. I posted few pics of my mommywrap over my Trachy.
Thx

Nice pics as always, Jim.
That Sequoia especially :D

You planted the Martianus today? WSM or no WSM...hope you've got more C-9s to help that fellow.

Washy protection looks .... taller
Curious why you tie fronds individually and then bunch them up in the center.
Isn't that the same as just tying them all up together at once?

Good luck with the cooldown, and the rest of the protection.
Yup, Graptopetalum is still pristine :D

Beny

No burlap, the enclosure has 2 layers(at least) of 1" bubble wrap,
with a layer of foam wrap between...this is winter 3 or 4.

Thanks Aaron

Much easier to care for than the palms!

Barb

Since I am only covering 3 ferns instead of 9,I splurged and planted the Martianus-
I think it will grow much faster in the ground,it seems to just get healthy and than start over...
btw,
the roots were definitely screaming to get out.
This guy will stay 35/45F minimum on the same thermocube as the T.Ferns.

About the Washy
Try to imagine gathering up 13 leaves(some 4' wide)all armed with huge barbed thorns
and getting them tight enough not to touch the plastic which(inside)is only the width of a garbage can :D

yea,it is taller-the Washy grew 4' had to double up!

Thanks Barb

Jim,

Your Martianus will look like this one day http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Palm/Tr ... ianus.html
Wow, what a beauty.
Native to India and Burma, it probably needs tons of water/humidity.

Yeah, good point.
More like a wrestling match.

The lower petioles on my smaller Washy were really stiff and didn't want to bend up.
So I left them loose; figure they'll be cut off anyway.

Already chuckling at your next year's protection since it grew 4 feet this year.
I want a front row seat next year... :laughing2:
