Seed Identification

Post by wheelman1976 » Wed Nov 14, 2012 6:28 pm

Now that it's turning to winter time I'm kicking around planting my seeds that I got on my honeymoon in Maui this past april. I remember picking this thing up when I was in lahaina for some dinner. It came off of a tree that looks somewhat palmy, but didn't have windmill type fronds or coconut palms. Anyone seen anything like this? I opened one and found the round thing inside. Curious if anyone can tell me? I'm looking for a photo that I can show, it'd just be nice to know... it certainly won't stop me from trying to grow it!

And what was inside!

I think it's something in the Dypsis genus, but I'll wait for someone who's more of an expert to answer.

The seeds look like queen palm, but I think that pic is of a solitaire palm:

Doug, maybe this will help.

Scroll halfway down for palm seed photos and labels (in English), although the rest of the site is French.
