Amaryllis(Hippeastrum) Hybridization

So I needed something to do over the winter and so I started collecting Amaryllis now I am going to try my hand at Hybridization. I already was growing a few types but decided to get more now I have about a dozen different varieties mostly large flowering hybrids but also a few species Types. I got Apple Blossom, Red Lion, Johnsonii, Ackermanii, Voodoo, Gran Cru, Aphrodite, Pink Diamond, Minerva, La Paz, Bogota, and Papilio. We will see what happens this should be fun and interesting.

They are easy to grow, and easy to hybridize. Ive had mine bloom bone dry and 15 feet away from a small southern window. Mine even set seed by itself, I didnt know they were self fertile. I managed to kill the seedlings 3 years after they germinated.... Oh well..

Strange that they set seed on there own inside the house. Yeah from what I read some varieties have fertility problems because of hybrids between species and the number of chromosomes. It can be kind of confusing. We will see what happens.
