Steve,

That's gotta be a cone coming :compress:
Curious how many hours/day it gets shade.

And those are great sized pots.

You must be sweltering in the heat wave... :?

Hi Barb,

It's on the East side of the house, so probably about 6 hours of direct sun per day and roughly a 20 gallon container.
Also a Sago over there that has about doubled in size over the last two months, and I have no clue as to why they are doing so well..... lol
Filled the containers with whatever soil i had left and no fertilizer. These are also at a vacant property, so I take 5 gallons over to water them about every week or so.

These temps here are ridiculous, weeks upon weeks of 100F+ days with no rain..... Think 109F tomorrow, then cooling off to 105F for the rest of the week :D

Steve,

Since they get water only once a week, good that they're on the east side of house with those sweltering temps.

For the Dioon edule and Sago to do so well, they must prefer that kind of heat with only morning sun.
I'll drag my Sagos back into some shade. :|

Rather than hauling water there, wouldn't it be easier to bring the potted plants to your place?

Someone on a weather site posted those temps were only matched during the Dust Bowl.

I wouldn`t be able to walk two steps in the temps you`re experiencing!

That`s definitely a cone coming, Steve, on the Dioon. Exciting!
Want to see all phases please.
My Dioon edule is still a baby, though I`ve had it `forever`, LOL.

Gorgeous Sago...is that a second pup at far right.

It may not fit back into the GH ...

Stay cool and well in your blistering heat, Steve.

Steve, that is sooooo beautiful.
At first glance, reminded me of a sloth-head...not that I've seen a ton of those

What are the little blue things?

Hope your heatwave/drought is over with the leftover rain from the tropical storm.

Thanks Barb!

Not sure what those little blues things are, the pine tree is dropping them all over the place :D

We're missing all the rain, but the temps are back in the 90's, so a bit cooler at least!

Steve,

I've got pine trees all over the place.
Never saw blue "seed-looking thingies" except on my junipers...berries.

In the first pic, they're attached to the cone, so I'm really puzzled.
Hopefully CycadGuy can help explain this.

Down to the 90's?
Oh man...what a heatwave you and your family have endured.
Hate to think you're looking forward to Fall, but it'll be a blessing, I'm sure.
