Here are some photos of some of our palms germinating. These are Butia X Syagrus / Mule palm. We use bottom heat between 87F and 97F. We started by using old bus tubs but have designed some new trays that have a screen at the bottom so we can just hose the seedlings down to extract them. Seeds are soaked for two days and then cleaned before planting.

Thanks Barb, and Tim. My helper loves playing in the dirt. With spring and summer coming early in Florida the germination this year has been above normal. I believe we are doing around 40%.

Erik,

How many weeks until seeds germinated?

Barb

Germinating time.

Typically it takes 3 to 6 months. When the first wave of seedlings come we pull them all and replant all the remaining seeds that have not germinated. Then the seeds usually go dormant during the winter as we turn off our heated beds. Then we get a second wave the next spring. We continue this process up to 3 years out.
