newbie in niagara,hello!
hello from niagara, im a new young man to the palm scene. i will try to post my flower beds, i have a killer spring time garden. I live right on the niagara escarpment on the cliff edge, if you dig down 10 feet or so you will hit a fossilized sea bed( i collected some rocks when the re-did the water pipes!). I am right where the lake ontario( warm in winter, cold in summer) and lake erie ( frozen in winter, warm in summer) air currents meet. the weather here is getting warmer each year, we basically had no snow this winter and right now its 23c in MARCH? im not sure what zone i am in because i can't get a real answer ha. I have fruit tress, two 4foot regular trunking yuccas that my neighbor left out for grabs, and they did well @ 1degree C last winter in a un-warmed sun room. I have many hibiscus, oleander, aloes and 30 or so 28year old rose of sharon. I have two planted aquariums(one is 12 years growing, with guppies. I play violin, viola, cello, horn, bassoon, trombone ect. im into wine and into making furniture and art pieces. so i have many hobbies... im interested in getting to know the ontarians and canadians here to find out where to buy and tips ect.i am very open to planting suggestions, im into unique plants. it also very interesting to speak with others around the world. so yes, i would love to grow some big hearty palms and bamboo too, I have access to two sun rooms and 1/4 acres of land maybe more. I have a banana plant , a 2 year old avocado too. I think I would like to get a windmill palm as my first.
cheers,
Niagaraguy
cheers,

Welcome aboard, niagaraguy!
After this winter, you're probably a zone 10
Yup, time for some Trachycarpus fortunei.
And photos...we love photos.
Pick a topic and post away.
Oh...and send some warmth west....way west to BC please.

Hi Niagara guy. What's your name? I am in Beamsville. We here are zone 7a. Historically zone 6b. This year, 7b (or 8a)?!?
Where abouts are you? I can tell you which zone you are.
Welcome!
Adam

Welcome to the forum. I'm from Scarborough myself. You should try T. fortunei or R. hystrix. I know of people who are growing both with very little protection in the Niagara area.

Welcome! Always good to have another "local" poster. I'm betting you're on the edge of the zone 6b along the escarpment... One of the best climates for growing in the province. There are a few growers from the area on here, and other 'old-timers' who post on other boards. There are a few older Needle palms in Niagara Falls and St. Catherines, and I would echo Cam's suggestion that you try one as well!

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Another Ontarian!
Niagra is a great place to have a great garden. There are some wicked plants growing there.
Im up in Thunder Bay. Anywhere from zone 3B to a cold 5a in some spots. I have a few fruit trees and stuf, bamboo up here. I used to manage a fish a reptile department at a pet store, and play a few instraments too!
There are quite a variety of tastes here. Im pretty sure 90% of my new things have been inspired by peoples yards and suggestions here

I agree the PEOPLE are just great! The information is priceless! Would never ever tried growing palms without the inspiration I've getting here in PN. BTW Niagara-on-the Lake and Niagara-on-the Falls are two places in Ontario I enjoy every time visiting. Wineries are friendly, the IceWine is sweet, plants around there are must to be have.
